In Global Discovery Chemistry (GDC) at NIBR in Basel, Switzerland, we are at the core of Novartis’ purpose and working with us gives you plenty to be passionate about! Due to paternity leave, we have a temporary opening position (starting 1st of September 2022) in the Separations group for a highly motivated graduate scientist focusing both on SFC and HPLC chromatographic methods for chemistry support. The Separations team maintains the technology and expertise necessary to provide innovative solutions to challenging problems in drug discovery at our state-of-the-art facilities in Basel. We also collaborate with all research groups within NIBR to comprehensively purify and characterize molecules ranging from traditional small molecules to peptides/macrocyclics and conjugated biotherapeutics. This is a dynamic separations laboratory where you will be exposed to drug discovery purification challenges.

This role is limited for 5 months.

Your key responsibilities:
Your responsibilities include, but are not limited to:
• To support medicinal chemistry projects across a variety of disease areas.
• Work in a highly collaborative team environment, developing analytical and preparative methods
• Performing preparative purification of chiral and achiral drug discovery molecules
• You will be a diligent, dedicated chromatographer who communicates extremely well with all medicinal chemists, Analytical Scientists, Mass Spectrometrists, NMR spectroscopists and other colleagues.
• Experimental results support progression of drug discovery, technology, and/or early development projects.

Minimum Requirements

What you’ll bring to the role:
• BSc level associate, fluent in English
• Organic chemistry knowledge and knowledge/experience of use of chromatography to support med chem.
• Multitasking – Ability to juggle parallel workflows whilst keeping all informed of progress
• Strong interpersonal skills and curious - ability to work independently within a team environment.
• Expertise in data analysis/interpretation, data management, software.
• Prepare summaries of work for presentations and reports
• Excellent communication skills and strong interpersonal skills are required.

Desirable requirements:
• Experience with chromatography instrumentation analytical
• Experience with purification
