1 Global Discovery Chemistry Community working across 7 disease areas at the Novartis Institutes for BioMedical Research (NIBR) is seeking a hardworking and motivated synthetic/medicinal chemist to join our Lead Generation effort in Cambridge, MA. The successful candidate will join an energizing and collaborative research organization, working alongside colleagues who are dedicated to improving human health through the discovery of transformative medicines.

We are seeking an outstanding synthetic/medicinal chemist with the skills, experience and passion to impact key portfolio projects as an embedded Lead Generation expert. Grounded in your medicinal chemistry experience, you will work directly with drug discovery project teams to shape compound quality and diversity through library design/synthesis, scaffold morphing, development/application of parallel chemistries and diversity toolkits, and use of automated workflows and desktop design/analytical tools.

Your Responsibilities Include:

- Interact and be part of matrixed project teams to drive effective decision-making; collaborate with peers and work effectively and efficiently as an important part of a cross-functional team

- Use contemporary medicinal chemistry principles, data analysis, and predictive models to independently design compounds based on team or individual hypotheses

- Develop/apply novel methodologies and technologies in parallel format, interface with data scientists and automation experts to optimize workflows

- Analyze and interpret data, solve synthetic issues and design follow-up experiments

- Adhere to laboratory safety policies and practices

Minimum Requirements

What you’ll bring to the role:

- BS or MS degree in chemistry with 0 to 5 years of industrial experience

- Knowledge of modern organic synthetic methods

- Excellence in common purification and analytical techniques

- Strong problem solving and communication skills

Additional qualifications that will help in the role:

- Hands on experience with parallel/array chemistry and/or automation

- Experience with medicinal chemistry, structure-based drug design, fragment-based drug discovery, targeted protein degradation, and/or covalent inhibitors

- Familiarity with data analysis tools and/or data science
