6000! That’s the number of associates in the Novartis Institutes for BioMedical Research (NIBR). This division is the innovation engine of Novartis, focusing on powerful new technologies that have the potential to help produce therapeutic breakthroughs for patients!

This role is a highly technical and/or specialized professional position responsible for supporting research by providing high quality and consistent in vivo training and technical input to research staff within our multi-building, multi-discipline research program. Perform supplemental tasks in assisting the Manager, coordinating CM staff activities as it relates to specific associate and training scheduling and other delegated programmatic oversight duties as specified.

Major Accountabilities:
• Principally responsible for daily, hands-on technical in vivo training support (i.e. handling and restraint, euthanasia, compound administration, blood/tissue collection, etc.)
• Often responsible for liaising with research department personnel.
• Routinely responsible for ensuring compliance with all institutional and regulatory protocols, policies, and guidelines
• Responsible for pursuing continuous learning/professional development opportunities, enhancing/expanding skill set, and reviewing CM SOPs/techniques
• Other duties and responsibilities as may be required.

• Provide consistent and high quality on site scientific in vivo support
• Proactively meet and exceed requestors’ expectations
• Liaise with research community for comprehension of scientific rational behind study parameters to determine training needs
• Organize trainings for teammates
• Train and evaluate new associates to proficiency on applicable techniques
• Effectively gain certification and proficiency on all applicable technical skills as required by the role
• Team-oriented and interactive. Foster peer/team development and performance
• Continuously support in vivo Science and Technology Management in maintaining compliance with all internal and external regulatory agencies in accordance with the Guide for the Care and Use of Laboratory Animals
• Continuously pursue and provide educational and professional development opportunities to enhance and expand relevant skills and knowledge

Minimum Requirements

• 2-year degree in Veterinary Sciences, 4-year Science degree, or an equivalent combination of experience along with higher education are required or country specific equivalents as applicable
• LAT Certification desirable or pursued after start or country specific equivalents as applicable
• Excellent mathematic & compound dose/volume administration calculation skills
• Superior written and oral communication and data documentation skills required
• Working knowledge of federal, state, local (Animal Welfare) laws, departmental SOP’s and Good Laboratory Practices.

• Minimum 4 - 8 years’ experience in a surgical skills tract laboratory animal program required

Qualified candidates will have well developed interpersonal and communication skills, a strong background of providing quality technical support, ability to perform literature searches and apply new scientific methods to training techniques. A strong dedication to animal welfare while expanding their scientific knowledge and in vivo technical skills. Candidates must be reliable, independent, work well in a dynamic, fast-paced team environment, and focused on attention-to-detail in providing consistent, high-quality results. Must be able to lift 50 lbs. and move heavy objects. Must be able work from a standing position for prolonged time periods and perform repetitive motion tasks. Able to work weekends, holidays and during inclement weather.
