Within the Novartis Institutes for BioMedical Research (NIBR), the Novartis Institute for Tropical Diseases (NITD) situated in the San Francisco Bay Area is dedicated to finding new therapies to treat and prevent a range of noncommunicable and infectious conditions, with an emphasis on tropical diseases and viral pathogens. We are seeking a highly talented and motivated synthetic / medicinal chemist to join the Global Discovery Chemistry team at our NIBR / NITD Emeryville, CA site. Your responsibilities:

- Independently design compounds based off team or individual hypotheses, utilize novel methodologies and technologies, and carry out multi-step syntheses of small molecules
- Use contemporary medicinal chemistry principles to drive science to key decision points
- Analyze and interpret data, solve synthetic issues and design follow-up experiments
- Collaborate with peers and work effectively and efficiently as an important part of a cross-functional team
- Adhere to laboratory safety policies and practices

Minimum Requirements

What You'll Bring to the Role:
- MS degree in organic chemistry; 3+ years of industrial experience is preferred
- A comprehensive knowledge of modern organic synthetic methods; medicinal chemistry knowledge is a plus
- Excellence in common purification and analytical techniques
- Strong problem solving and communication skills
