Expert Science & Technology – Mass Spectrometry Expert in Analytical Characterization (f/m/d), Gobal Drug Development, Kundl, Austria

We are expanding the core of our Analytical Characterization (AC) team in Kundl, Austria – to supply groundbreaking analytics and in-depth protein knowledge for challenging biosimilar projects or new biological entities (NBEs) within analytical characterization in biologics development at Novartis. NBEs and biosimilars are supported from the early development phase to commercialization and up to life-cycle management activities. AC applies a wide range of physico-chemical analytical techniques with a focus on mass spectrometry to characterize biopharmaceutical products.

We are looking for an associate with profound interest and joy in hands-on mass spectrometry-based protein, peptide and glycan analysis, that is thrilled by new analytical challenges and willing to stay on track “till the riddles are solved”.

Your key responsibilities:

Your responsibilities include, but are not limited to:
• Design, plan, perform and document scientific experiments for the characterization of therapeutic proteins, their posttranslational modifications, degradation products under minimal direction using state of the art LC-MS instruments.
• Generate, evaluate and interpret data as well as communicate results.
• Perform and document complex analytical tasks within the scope of established procedures.
• Prepare technical documents including study protocols and reports or analytical procedures.
• Implement new or optimize existing methods and processes. Systematical screening and implementation of new technologies is expected as well as participation in general innovation and scientific network activities.
• Responsible for the maintenance and qualification of lab equipment.
• Participate in function-specific sub teams and independently fulfill assigned tasks and responsibilities.

Minimum Requirements

What you’ll bring to the role:
Essential:
• Technical expert studies with PhD in Chemistry, Pharmacy, Biology or other natural sciences or Master of Science with at least 2-3 years of relevant experience in the biopharmaceutical industry.
• Hands-on experience with mass spectrometric characterization of proteins/peptides/glycans is mandatory.
• Theoretical and practical knowledge of state-of-the-art ESI-Q-TOF, Orbitrap or MALDI-TOF MS technologies as well as MS data processing software solutions (e.g. Xcalibur, Refiner MS, Analyst, GPMAW) is required.
• Protein chemistry knowledge and the ability to apply this knowledge to analytical challenges.
• Interest in instrumental analytical approaches and the ability to obtain proficiency in new technologies in short time.
• Thinking “outside the box” and explore new avenues of analytical characterization.
• Fluency in English (oral and written), knowledge of German is a plus.

Desirable requirements:
• Proficient scientific/technical writing and presentation skills with an independent, thorough and reliable working style, and ability to trouble-shoot analytical equipment and processes.
• Broad experience in protein/peptide/glycan separation approaches (i.e. chromatographic, various modes) with understanding of development activities and processes in Biopharma and knowledge on relevant regulatory guidelines.

In accordance with Austrian law, we are obliged to disclose the minimum salary as stated in the collective bargaining agreement. For this position the minimum salary is € 47.455,52/year (on a full time basis). We also offer a potential market oriented excess payment in line with your experience and qualifications.
