Job Description

6000! That’s the number of associates in the Novartis Institutes for BioMedical Research (NIBR). This division is the innovation engine of Novartis, focusing on powerful new technologies that have the potential to help produce therapeutic breakthroughs for patients.

We are seeking exceptional scientists, at a variety of levels, to join the Cancer Therapeutics team at the Novartis Institutes of Biomedical Research at San Diego. As part of this recruiting drive, we are seeking a highly motivated senior scientist with extensive in vitro/cell-based assay development experience to support drug screening and hit validation. The successful candidate will independently develop and implement cell-based and biochemical assays to characterize protein-protein interactions and oncogenic signaling pathways in cancer. The candidate will also leverage their expertise in biology and biochemistry to support mechanism of action studies as well as new target identification and validation in oncology.

Primary responsibilities:
• Design, optimize and implement biochemical assays to characterize protein-protein interactions and small molecule binding, including HTRF, FP, alpha screen etc. Experience with protein expression and purification is a plus.
• Perform cell-based assays to study mechanism of action of therapeutic molecules, including western blot, immunoprecipitation, ELISA, flow cytometry, qPCR, immunofluorescence, luminescence-based assays, etc.
• Experience with molecular cloning and functional genomic studies including gene knockdown and overexpression to investigate drug-target interactions is a plus.
• Data collection, analysis, documentation, and interpretation.
