Job Purpose:
The Global Disease Leader (GDL) (VP) has primary accountability for developing and implementing the Integrated Disease Area Product Strategy (IDAPS) for all products and indications within a disease area (including companion diagnostics (CDx) The GDL owns the development and ensures constant updates of the Disease Area Strategy (DAS) in full alignment with the GPT and through that contributes to the overall franchise disease area roadmap. As a core member of the GPT, the GDL is partnering with global, regional and country colleagues to provide leadership to the Global Product Strategy Leader (GPSL), ensuring support of all commercial inputs to the Global Product Team (GPT).

The GDL owns both present and future commercial performance of the disease area, collaborating closely with Global Drug Development (GDD), Global Medical Affairs (GMA) and Global Value & Access (GVA).
Reporting to the GDL is the most senior commercial role focused exclusively on success within a disease area.

Your responsibilities will include, but are not limited to:
• Own current and future performance of the disease area
• Define and implement a disease area strategy that is more than the sum of individual product and indication strategies. This includes all life cycle expansion and optimization programs for assets within the DA
• Develop and implement commercial strategies for all products and indications within a disease area, that will maximize current and future success for patients and for Novartis globally
• Identify diagnostics strategies required to optimize outcomes for patients within the disease area, support BD&L in partner contracting, and help drive subsequent joint commercialization efforts in collaboration with partners – including supporting regulatory approval strategies and filings
• Leads co-creation (global with defined countries and 3 regions) of all disease-specific components of the annual IDAPS, including financial forecasts and budgets, program development, competitive analysis and customer insights designed to enhance sales, the tactical plan including multi channel approaches, market share and profitability, and contribute to cross-indication planning for brands.
• Lead the Global Disease Team, including Global Brand Leads (GBLs), Global Indication Leads (GIL) and GPSL as direct reports.
• Provides leadership to the disease team members, including coaching, advising and developing people
• Foster disease-focused knowledge / digital upskilling and expertise within the Disease team at all levels and in collaboration with affiliates worldwide, external agency partners, key thought leaders, clinical experts and other internal and external stakeholders

This position will be located at the East Hanover site and will not have the ability to be located remotely. This position will require 20% travel as defined by the business (domestic and/ or international).

Minimum Requirements

What you’ll bring to the role:
Education: An advanced university degree in business and/or business preferred (e.g., MBA, MD, Pharm. D., PhD.)
Experience:
• Strong marketing background combined with scientific curiosity
• At least 15 years of healthcare operational marketing / franchise head experience
• Launch experience with new products or major line extensions – oncology required, multi-country preferred
• Ability to work with Oncology/Hematology Medical experts
• Comfortable rapidly switching between complex science and commercial concepts, with an ability to bridge between them and build common understanding amongst people on either side
• International experience
• Proven ability to collaborate, operate and influence cross-functionally and cross-culturally
• Proven leadership ability, with strong analytical, strategic thinking and project management skills

Highly Preferred:
• Immuno-Oncology experience strongly preferred; Lung or gastrointestinal cancer experience, strongly preferred
• Experience working within a joint-venture / commercial collaboration preferred
