Our Immunology Unit has a pipeline with depth and breadth and is known to be a talent powerhouse. We are uniquely positioned to have a critical impact on bringing innovative medicines to patients across multiple disease areas. This includes developing Novartis’ multi-blockbuster Cosentyx and several novel agents, with an extensive immuno-dermatologic footprint.

Your responsibilities include, but are not limited to:
• Lead and head the clinical function and provide leadership and oversight to Global Program Clinical Heads, and all other clinical associates, in the assigned team, in the Immunology DU, including clinical resourcing planning and oversight
• Drive a culture of inspired, curious and unbossed and support the organization to achieve culture aspirations
• Lead global talent management, career development and succession planning activities in the clinical function. Attract, develop, coach, motivate and retain top talents, building a leadership and skills pipeline for the future.
• Bring clinical design excellence to the programs in the DU (review of design and protocols for development) and is responsible for methodology development, biomarker development, quality and compliance and dose selection strategy.
• Establish short and long range portfolio and disease area vision and strategy in collaboration with Development Unit Head & Development Leadership Team
• Responsible for interface with Novartis Institutes of Biomedical Research (NIBR), in coordination with GPH Early Portfolio and Development
• Provides medical and strategic input into Business Development & Licensing assessments in relation to portfolio goals and priorities
• Key resource for KOL interactions/external collaborations
• Key CD resource for GMA-run phase 4 programs
• Represents CD function at oversight meetings for later phase (DLT, FLT, DCN, IMB, FIR, Health Authorities) and earlier phase (TED, FSR) programs for medical, strategic and portfolio-wide perspectives, the latter in conjunction with GPH Early Portfolio and Development
• Contribute to the Development Unit and wider GDD organization

Minimum Requirements

What you’ll bring to the role:
• MD or equivalent required; clinical specialty or subspecialty training preferred
• Minimum 10 years of drug development or clinical research experience including experience leading Global Teams in dossier submission for New Chemical Entity or Biologic
• Proven track record of R&D leadership, drug development and personnel management
• Clinical Background relevant to the Programs in the Development Franchise (Medical Training or Experience on Program Teams) is preferred
• Track record of success in leading cross-functional teams.
• Experience in product registration and major Health Authority interactions required
• Demonstrate deep knowledge of operational issues
• Fully competent in GCP and pharmacovigilance practices
• Demonstrate competence in understanding of commercial and market access issues and collaborate closely with these groups.
