Senior Scientist, Protein Sciences

1.2 million patients benefited from Novartis Oncology therapeutics in 2020. Help us reach more patients by joining the Oncology Drug Discovery group, an early stage drug discovery team focused on understanding and exploiting the molecular mechanisms of novel cancer targets for the discovery, characterization and optimization of Oncology therapeutics. We are seeking a creative and collaborative protein scientist to join our team in a hands-on role to discover the next generation of innovative cancer treatments.

The Senior Scientist, Protein Sciences will be responsible for the following:
• Engineering, production and characterization of a diverse set of proteins for use in biochemical/biophysical assays and structure/function studies
• Development and implementation of emerging technologies with an emphasis on tools and techniques for generating proteins, peptides, nucleic acid and multi-protein complexes for use in drug discovery
• Experimental design and analysis, interpretation, documentation, and presentation of data to the Biological Chemistry group and multidisciplinary project teams
• Contribution to group organization, productivity, and expertise through collaboration and idea exchange
• Mentoring/training of other group members on new techniques or equipment

Minimum Requirements

What You Will Bring To The Role:

Education:
• An MS or BA/BS in Molecular biology, Biochemistry, Biochemical engineering, or a related field.

Requirements: Senior Scientist
• An MA with at least 4 years industry experience or BA/BS with at least 6 years industry experience
• A minimum of 2 years of relevant protein purification experience
• Required: Experience with recombinant protein expression using common expression systems (baculovirus experience highly desired)
• Required: Knowledge of protein purification with different chromatography methods such as affinity, IEX and SEC
• Highly desired: Experience using high-throughput systems/automation for protein characterization and purification (i.e., Robo Columns)
• An excellent team-player with strong communication skills
