The Director PHAD PDU Specialty Ophthalmology is a member of the site leadership team. Acts as team leader of the assigned Formulation and Process Development team Influences, leads and manages all project/network/platform activities and applies scientific/technical expertise and leadership to address complex R&D issues/topics. Supports development function by initiating and leading scientific programs or projects/networks/platforms; coordinating interdisciplinary projects and teams. Develops long term strategies on science and technologies.

What you'll be doing:

• Proactively contributes to setting, updating and monitoring of team goals. Translates team goals into daily work. Acts as a role model and energize the team. Drives finding of solutions to achieve respective team goals.
• Ensures results are achieved by allocating proper resources, removing obstacles, and helping others envision end results.
• Engages in recruitment, development and leading of staff, including goal and objective setting and assessment of performance.
• Supports continuous improvement, enabling innovative, competitive, compliant, and consistent delivery on objectives of teams, projects, networks and/or platforms.
• Guiding and advising others to work according to appropriate SOP’s, GLP, GMP, OQM, HSE, ISEC and Novartis guidelines.
• In close cooperation with the PDU Head, drives the unit long-term strategic plan and its implementation.
• Enable development of innovative dosage forms by efficiently and effectively establishing new technologies and developing new platforms key issues and any other critical topics in a timely manner to the appropriate management level and/ or to any other relevant project team member(s).

Minimum Requirements

What you'll bring to the role:

• Minimum: Advanced degree in scientific or relevant discipline
• Desirable: Ph.D. in scientific or relevant discipline or equivalent
• Excellent English required (oral & written), local language is desirable
• 8+ years directly related experience + 5 years leading people in a matrix environment
• Is an effective people manager, leader and communicator: successfully manages and develops people according to the needs of Global PHAD and the specific Pharmaceutical Development Unit.
• Manages resource allocation and capacity adequately to ensure timelines and key milestones are met.
• Ensures good communication and problem solving in the team and across organizational boundaries
