We are seeking a highly motivated, collaborative, and curious Research Scientist to join the Lentivirus and Hematopoietic Stem Cell (HSC) Engineering Team within NIBR’s Immuno-Oncology & Hematology (IOH) Research Department.

We are dedicated to innovating the next generation of ex vivo engineered HSC therapies for genetic disease, that can be treated with HSC transplantation. The discoveries we make can contribute directly to improving efficacy and accessibility of gene therapies to patients.

As a key contributor in a dynamic, multidisciplinary team, you will be involved in the design, production, efficacy and safety of novel lentiviral vectors for therapeutic use.

Your responsibilities include, but are not limited to:

•Conduct and optimize experiments independently; record, interpret, and communicate data promptly;
•Contribute to viral design, production and analysis activities at research scale;
•Perform ddPCR, flow cytometry and western blot analysis to assess virus quality, virus transduction efficiency and expression of gene therapy products;
•Establish and perform in vitro cell based assays to support gene therapy research;
•Present data in meetings and contribute to discussion;
•Maintain and organize reagents and stock solutions.

Minimum Requirements

What you’ll bring to the role:

•BS with 2-5 years or MS degree with 1+ years in virology, cell biology, molecular biology, or biology with a minimum of 2-5 years of relevant research experience in industry or academic lab. Level will be commensurate with relevant experience.
•Experience with molecular biology and cloning for the design and production of novel therapeutic cargos for lentiviral vector production
•Experience with mammalian cell culture
•Experience carrying out in vitro assays using molecular biology techniques
•Ability to analyze, interpret, and present data in a clear manner
•Eager to learn new skills and passionate about scientific discovery and capable of independently conducting, and critically analyzing the research results with minimal supervision
•Excellent documentation and organizational, communication and interpersonal skills

Desirable skills and experience:

•Experience with virus production preferred
•Experience with qPCR or ddPCR, and flow cytometry preferred
•Experience with hematopoietic stem cells preferred
