As a Senior Scientist, you will have an opportunity to join the Neuroscience department at Novartis Institutes for Biomedical Research (NIBR), be part our multidisciplinary team and contribute to the development of innovative medicines that can improve lives of patients with psychiatric disorders.

We are seeking for a highly motivated and independent scientific associate with a background in the field of cellular and molecular neurobiology to join our team. The candidate will be primarily responsible for in vivo project design, execution and new target validation in psychiatric drug discovery. The new hire will have experience in neuroscience to address key scientific questions related to receptor/channel biology, signal transduction, synapse and glial biology.

Key responsibilities:
• Design in vivo rodent experiments to initiate and advance preclinical characterization of novel targets and new therapeutic programs.
• Working with ex vivo and rodent CNS models
• Work closely with internal and external collaborators to ensure the highest level of science and animal welfare
• Conduct various types of dosing assays
• Perform brain tissue dissection, isolation, sectioning and biofluid collection.
• Perform routine molecular biology laboratory techniques and data analysis.
• Execute experiments to meet project timelines and objectives

Minimum Requirements

What you'll bring to the role:
• Ph.D. degree in Neuroscience or related discipline or M.S with 5+ years of experience in designing and performing in vivo assays across different neuroscience areas in an industrial or academic setting
• Expertise in in vivo neurological and psychiatric disease models
• Proficiency in molecular biology and recombinant DNA techniques
• Strong problem-solving skills, thinking creatively to tackle scientific and operational challenges
• Ability to work in a highly interactive and fast-paced drug discovery environment
• Proven track record in leading collaborative projects

Desired Qualifications:
• Experience with mouse models of neurodevelopmental and/or psychiatric disorders
• Experience in stereotaxic surgeries in rodents.
• Experience in preparation of acute and organotypic brain slices.
• Imaging and image analysis skills.
