We are seeking a highly motivated, collaborative and curious Principal Scientist to lead the Lentivirus and Hematopoietic Stem Cell (LV-HSC) Engineering Team within NIBR’s Immuno-Oncology & Hematology (IOH) Research Department.

We are dedicated to innovating the next generation of ex vivo engineered HSC therapies for genetic diseases that can be treated with HSC transplantation.

As a leader of a dynamic, multidisciplinary team, you will lead the design, production and characterization of novel lentiviral vectors for therapeutic use. IOH is a highly dynamic and collaborative drug discovery department that interfaces innovative biology, genome analysis, genetic engineering, gene and cell therapy platforms (including CAR-T therapeutics) with pre-clinical development and translational medicine. The discoveries we make can contribute directly to improving efficacy and accessibility of gene therapies to patients.

Your responsibilities include, but are not limited to:

•You will assume a crucial role in the development of novel therapeutic concepts and will contribute at all stages of a project, from inception, early project validation, optimization, candidate selection and through to early clinical development of novel engineered HSC therapies with a primary focus on designs of lentiviral vectors for clinical use.
•You will work collaboratively with other experts to develop project strategy, identify key drug discovery issues, propose and implement creative solutions, execute and guide teams to success and decision points.
•You will lead the design of novel lentiviral vectors for therapeutic use leveraging expertise in HIV biology and molecular virology.
•You will manage a team of associates.

Minimum Requirements

What you’ll bring to the role:

•Ph.D. (or MD/Ph.D.) with 3 to 5 years experience in biological sciences such as virology, molecular biology, cell biology, biochemistry or immunology, with several international publications. Preference to candidates with experience with HIV.
•The candidate will have a demonstrable record of accomplishment of driving and supporting multiple research projects, and contributions as an author to high-impact, peer-reviewed publications in the field.
•Self-motivation, ability to work independently, passion for working in an interdisciplinary, collaborative research environment.
•Will possess excellent oral and written communication skills and an ability to thrive in a dynamic matrix research environment.
•Creative problem-solving skills; excellent analytical, communication and organizational skills.

Desirable requirements:

•Preference given to candidates with experience in gene therapy and/or lentiviral vectors.
•Experience with HSC biology preferred.
