As a Research Scientist II, you will have an opportunity to join the NIBR Biologics Center (NBC) and be at the cutting edge, leading the development of innovative medicines that can improve lives of patients.

What you'll be doing:
• Executing the development and optimization of new protein and nucleic acid analytical methods for the characterization of AAV based gene therapies. Performing at least two analytical techniques (for example SEC-UPLC and CE-SDS) without supervision.

· Serving as the local point of contact for at least 1 analytical technique, including training other personnel in the technique and interfacing with other internal experts and vendors.

· Helping to design experiments with supervision, then independently implementing them to characterize research grade AAV Gene Therapy Drug Substance, AAV process intermediate samples, and process related impurities.

· Independently analyzing complex scientific data and helping to interpret and plan follow up experiments with supervision.

· Documenting your experimental design, implementation, and results in an electronic laboratory notebook following good documentation practices.

· Authoring reports and presentations with supervision. Presenting experimental plans and results to internal and external multi-disciplinary audiences.

· Acting as a key point of contact for general laboratory management activities including scheduling preventative maintenance on various instruments, tracking laboratory consumables and reagents, and shipping and receiving samples.

Minimum Requirements

What you'll bring:
• Bachelor's in Analytical Chemistry, Molecular Biology, Cell Biology, Biochemistry, Virology, or a related field with 4 years’ relevant experience or Master's with 2 years relevant experience.

· Experience in protein analytical chemistry. Prior experience with AAV is beneficial but not required.

· Hands-on experiences with protein analytical chemistry techniques including Liquid Chromatography and Capillary Electrophoresis. Experience with Mass Spectrometry and/or nucleic acids is beneficial but not required.

· A passion for the drug discovery/development process and interested in working with new therapeutic technologies to treat rare diseases.

· Organization, attention to detail, and an ability to work under tight timelines in a collaborative team setting.

· Excellent interpersonal and communication skills.

· Ability to troubleshoot, think critically, and support multiple projects simultaneously.
