Job Description

Don’t miss this exciting opportunity to join the Oncology Translational Research (OTR) department at the Novartis Institutes for Biomedical Research (NIBR) in Cambridge, MA.
OTR is a global laboratory-based research group, which supports the development of novel therapeutics in the NIBR Oncology Disease Area from early stages of target identification through proof-of-concept clinical trials.

Key activities of our group include understanding target epidemiology and biology, therapeutic mechanisms of action, response/resistance biomarkers, indication selection and rational combination opportunities across diverse mechanisms of action.

The Next Generation Diagnostics (NGDx) group in OTR applies cutting-edge technologies and analytical approaches to thousands of oncology clinical trial samples each year and brings hypotheses from biomarker discovery to bear on drug discovery and development. As part of NGDx, this role will advance our translational research efforts via the development of novel approaches, as well as the identification and evaluation of external technologies, to collaborate with clinical teams across our Oncology portfolio and further our understanding of cancer biology.

This key position is ideal for a creative and highly motivated scientist wishing to combine their interest in novel areas of cancer biology with their strong desire to bridge exploratory research to early clinical trial design. The successful candidate will be an effective communicator, an engaged, influential collaborator, and demonstrate a deep scientific curiosity.

Key responsibilities include:
• Leading a cross-functional team to support the development of biomarker strategies and novel clinical biomarker assays for the Novartis Oncology portfolio.
• Leading and participating in translational research activities in the laboratory, primarily via development and/or use of novel biomarker assays.
• Collaboration on the applications of diagnostic technologies to enable exploratory biomarker discovery in a range of oncology clinical settings and acting as an advisor for later phases of diagnostic development.
• Opportunities to manage and mentor BS/MS scientists.
