Scientist MS&T (50%) (m/w/d), Active Pharmaceutical Ingredients Kundl, Austria

7000 tons! That is the annual amount of beta lactam antibiotics produced in Kundl. Continuous optimization of the SANDOZ high-end fermentation process is fostered by a team of scientists and lab technicians responding to the challenges in the market of generic pharmaceuticals.

Your key responsibilities:

Your responsibilities include, but are not limited to:
• Design, plan, perform, interpret, and report scientific experiments under the lead of a supervisor (scientist or Lab head) to contribute to overall MS&T and Project lead strategies and objectives
• Be part of a motivated, cross-functional organization for development and optimization of fermentation processes supporting the manufacturing of Penicillin
• As a functional specialist for (microbial) upstream process development (USP) you are responsible for activities incl. process development and process characterization
• Qualification and calibration of lab equipment with accompanying documentation and schedule routine maintenance
• Maintain up-to-date documentation of work carried out in laboratory / pilot plant including documentation storage and archiving
• Optimize existing methods, contribute to new method development und reproduce published methods
• Document and report results in accordance with the quality standards (e.g. regulatory compliance)

Minimum Requirements

What you’ll bring to the role:
Essential:
• BSC or MSC in Microbiology, biotechnology, biochemical engineering, bioprocess technology or similar
• Proficiency in oral and written German and English
• Ability to set, design, evaluate, summarize and report experimental designs, e.g. single and multivariate analysis
• Troubleshooting mind-set, analytical thinking, attitude to resolve challenges with the ability to properly balance between efforts, risks and benefits
• Passion and excitement for furthering the science from the bench
• Fluency in German, proficient in oral and written English

Desirable requirements:
• Good organizational and communication skills, team player, agile and dedicated personality to resolve challenges
• Good knowledge of laboratory and/or technical tools (Flow Cytometry, shake flask fermentation, Media optimization) and awareness for safe handling of chemicals, potentially dangerous materials and equipment

In accordance with Austrian law, we are obliged to disclose the minimum salary as stated in the collective bargaining agreement. For this position the minimum salary is € 47.455,52/year (on a full time basis). We also offer a potential market oriented excess payment in line with your experience and qualifications.
