Job Description

- Leading China IP team to be the strategic adviser to Novartis China Business and to Global IP departments. Manages all China-related IP matters, with focus on strategy, litigation, and policy. Leads Novartis through upcoming changes in Chinese IP regulations.
- Counsels Senior Management on all IP-related matters. Represents IP on respective boards/meetings. Builds strong relationships with Senior Management in China and Global IP.
- Manages all IP litigations in China, in cooperation with Global IP Franchise Heads. Develops and drives strategies to protect Novartis products in China.
- Leads Novartis through changing IP landscape in China. Communicates changes and provides training to Global IP team. Implements robust and efficient internal processes to address new regulations (e.g. patent linkage). Represents Novartis in IP policy matters in industry organizations.
- Champions quality and operational excellence in the China IP team. Attracts, retains, and develops talent for the China IP department.
- Manages relationship with outside law firms in China.

Minimum Requirements

- Scientific Degree with particular background in pharmaceutically relevant area such as biochemistry, biology, chemistry, pharmacology or equivalent.
- Qualified Chinese IP Lawyer and/or Qualified Chinese Patent Agent.
- Fluency in English and Chinese, both oral and written, are essential.
- 8+ yrs. post qualification experience in industry IP department or law firm with focus on pharmaceutical patent litigation, strategy, and policy. 5+ yrs. working experience in international environment. 3+ yrs. experience of people management and exposure to senior management.
- Other relevant substantive experience: Advice on use of patent rights in business context such as drug bidding or pricing activities; business development and licensing (BD&L), and other commercial functions. Experience in negotiation of IP settlements. Deep understanding of IP law outside of China, including US ANDA litigations and data exclusivity.
