Job Description

1 purpose… to reimagine medicine! The Novartis Institutes for BioMedical Research (NIBR) is the innovation engine of Novartis. We collaborate across scientific and organizational boundaries, with a focus on powerful new technologies that have the potential to help produce therapeutic breakthroughs for patients. Join the NIBR Postdoctoral program as a Discovery Fellow.

Viral vectors such as adeno-associated virus (AAV) or lentiviral vectors are increasingly used for gene therapy across disease and tissues but factors underlying targeting and transduction efficiency, vector choice or design limiting their intrinsic immunogenicity are not well defined. The Mechanistic Immunology group in Cambridge is seeking a highly motivated postdoctoral fellow to explore intracellular interactions between viral vectors and targeted cells and their contributions to transduction efficiency or immunogenicity. The successful candidate will lead this project combining viral sensing, proteomics and antigen presentation analyses with innate and adaptive functional immunology studies, investigating primary immune cells from healthy and disease samples. The project is expected to lead to publications of basic findings and to improvements of viral vectors for gene therapies developed at NIBR. Throughout the fellowship, the candidate will have opportunities to collaborate with NIBR postdoctoral fellows and scientists and academic collaborators and to expand their technical, scientific and mentoring skills.

The successful candidate will join a vibrant scientific community and collaborate with other postdoctoral fellows mentored by a range of scientists across disciplines and platforms, including chemistry, structural biology, molecular biology, functional genomics, neurophysiology and translational medicine. Discovery Postdoctoral Fellows at NIBR have a unique opportunity to conduct innovative, interdisciplinary research and are expected to publish their results in leading journals. The postdoctoral term is up to 4 years.
