Job Description

Within Novartis BeLux Medical Affairs’ department, you will be responsible for the leadership, management, direction, and implementation of the neuroscience Medical Affairs’ strategy, with a focus on performance management and medical transformation. In combination with those responsibilities, you may occasionally act as the right hand to the Chief Scientific Officer.

In addition, this function plays a lead role in the life-cycle management of new assets to deliver successful launches and in shaping the healthcare environment to accelerate patients’ access to innovative therapies.

The position includes extensive engagement with external healthcare stakeholders, such as Western Europe Cluster, region Europe and global stakeholders; as well as internal stakeholders such as local Marketing, Market Access, Sales, Public Affairs and Global Drug Development.

Also, you will assume the lead responsibilities in the planning and execution of medical advisory boards, educational omnichannel tools, clinical study design, medical monitoring, and publication planning. Furthermore, you will conjointly be expected to play a major role in the management of medical resources.

This function requires a high degree of scientific and medical competency, business acumen, and the ability to work both independently & within core teams to develop and successfully implement the medical affairs objectives of the company.


• Contribute proactively to the development and successful execution of the medical strategy and tactical plans, including collect, analyze & report impactful insights from Medical Experts
• Define, develop, and successfully implement scientific dossier & messaging platform
• Lead scientific engagement with medical experts, implement clinical and educational strategies and respond to unsolicited medical enquiries on innovative therapies in the field of neuroscience
• Healthcare stakeholders’ segmentation & targeting – ensure appropriate identification, mapping, and engagement of medical experts through Ad Boars, round tables, etc.
• Transform and personalize medical engagement including through digitalization and impact measurement
• Manage field medical activities in collaboration with cross-functional teams as well as actively mentor other field medical associates - act as a medical resource to field colleagues
• Manage the neuroscience medical team performance – define, develop, and successfully implement lean ways of working
• Actively lead, coach, and develop a highly dedicated team of medical resources (MSL, MAM, MA, etc.)
• Manage entirely the medical budget in neuroscience
• Support the Novartis clinical research programs including the optimization of local trial execution when relevant and multisource evidence generation plan for neuroscience
• Provide scientific educational support to study sites in collaboration with clinical operations and expert disease area/product training

Minimum Requirements

• Ideally PhD or Physician, Pharmacist in a life science related subject (e.g. physiology, biology)

• Fluency in English and French or Dutch preferred but not mandatory

• At least 8 years of relevant experience in pharmaceutical, medical device or food industry
• Ideally 3 years in a Senior position & 5 years as an MSL
