Your talents are needed to help the Public Affairs team in Brussels to remain a respected partner towards European Institutions in contributing, with ONE voice, to external policies and the political environment to enable Novartis to re-imagine medicine!

As a Senior Manager EU Public Affairs, you will monitor the European political environment and provide strategic advice on its impact and opportunities for Novartis business.
You will develop and execute Public Affairs strategies on selected topics to support business goals and policy objectives. You will represent Novartis with key EU stakeholders.

Your Responsibilities:
Influencing public policy and resulting legislation/regulation i.e.
• Develop and lead execution product support strategies targeting EU stakeholders with division and franchise PA colleagues
• Provide pro-active analysis and deep insights on EU political environment, key issues likely to affect Novartis’ business in Europe; work with colleagues to explore new opportunities or anticipate potential threats.
• Monitor the European institutions (Commission, European Parliament, Council of Ministers, European Court of Justice), with assistance from external agencies, and the major industry trade bodies (EFPIA, EUROPABIO, Eucope).
• Provide tailored information and advice to internal customers on external developments as appropriate; provide support to issue experts attending EFPIA and other trade bodies.

Represent Novartis and manage reputation with key EU stakeholders i.e.
• Act as Novartis Ambassador, building and maintaining sound and stable relationships with key EU stakeholders
• Develop and maintain own network of European political and representative group contacts.
• Represent Novartis in selected Committees of European Trade associations (EFPIA, EuropaBio, EUCOPE, etc.)
• Organize events/communication that foster Novartis recognition as most respected and successful healthcare company, with particular focus on our ability to innovate
• Create fact base (e.g. proof points, presentations, speaking points, position papers) to effectively advocate with policy-makers and other audiences to achieve desired Novartis objectives
• Support in preparation of meetings for regional business leads

Minimum Requirements

What you’ll bring to the role:

• University degree in Economics, Political Sciences, Public Health, Law or related field
• 7+ years’ work history in European Public Affairs either in European Institutions, pharmaceutical industry, trade association, consultancy or NGO
• 7+ years’ experience in pharmaceutical industry, or relevant sector with sound knowledge of health or social issues
• Solid understanding of the political relationships and sensitivities in Europe
• Fluency in English and French both verbally and in written is a must. Other principal European languages a plus
• Strong negotiation skills
• Ability to manage and priorities complex issues according to the impact to Novartis business
• Ability to network effectively both internally and externally in a multi-cultural environment
• Personal relationships with external opinion leaders and government bodies
• Excellent communication and presentation skills
