Join us in this mission and play a pivotal role to discover and produce innovative medicines across key therapeutic areas including oncology, immuno-oncology, cardiovascular and metabolic disease, immunoscience, neurology, and ophthalmology through multiple biologics therapeutic modalities.

Novartis is hiring for an Associate Director, Characterization and Formulations for our Biologics group. As a group head, you will lead a team of over 10 associates and be responsible for the characterization and pre-formulation of biologics during discovery to early development. The diversity of projects and tasks in our organization offer various areas for you to influence and further develop. The Characterization and Formulation Unit characterizes new therapeutic protein candidates of various formats throughout discovery to the handover to development.

What you’ll be doing:
• Drive the characterization and pre-formulation strategy and science for excellent support of our diverse biologics pipeline (e.g. antibodies, fusion proteins, ADCs, bispecifics, AAVs)
• Ensure optimal project support and high quality for all deliverables of your group
• Foster streamlined processes and optimal use of capacities as well as continues innovation, incorporating latest technologies and knowledge
• Effectively manage resources, project activities, timelines, maintain a strong customer focus and set respective objectives for your team
• Provide leadership and clear guidance to the team, optimally leveraging the expertise and experience of individuals
• Drive a culture of collaboration, integrity, and team development, and ensure a safe, empowering, and inspiring working environment
• Actively contribute and shape the overall team strategy and culture
• Actively provide significant contributions to decisions, initiatives as well as team and management meetings

Minimum Requirements

What you’ll bring to the role:
• PhD degree or equivalent in biochemistry, chemistry or a related field
• 6+ years of experience and proven track record in protein science and/or formulation science and 4+ years of experience as a people manager of 4 or more associates in an industry setting
• Excellent knowledge of different protein formats and strategies to characterize
• Experience in bringing biologics through discovery into development
• Expertise in at least one of the following areas: protein analytics, phys-chem analytics, mass spectrometry or formulation of biologics
• Proven ability to lead, coach and develop associates
