Job Description

This is why the Autoimmunity, Transplantation & Inflammation (ATI) Disease Area group at the Novartis Institutes for Biomedical Research (NIBR) is investing in the discovery of innovative and transformative therapies to improve the life of affected patients.

As part of this effort, ATI is seeking an experienced and highly motivated scientist to join our in vivo pharmacology group within the Autoimmunity, Inflammation and Transplantation (ATI) Department as a head of laboratory. The successful candidate will have a Ph.D. and postdoctoral training in neuroimmunology / neuroinflammation and extensive experience working with mouse models to support drug discovery for treatment of Multiple sclerosis and other neuroinflammatory diseases. A passion for approaches to identify and validate novel targets using state-of-the art technologies are highly desired.

Your responsibilities will include, but not be limited to:

• Head an in vivo pharmacology laboratory and supervise a team of lab associates conducting in vivo experimental work using rodent models of Multiple sclerosis (e.g. EAE models) and neuroinflammation

• Investigate and modulate pathomechanisms of neuroinflammatory diseases using in vitro and in vivo models, including RNA and protein extraction, immunohistochemistry, in-situ hybridization, Western blot, qPCR, and ELISA

• Generate and interpret OMICS data (e.g. scRNA-seq) and collaborate effectively with bioinformatics and data scientists on experimental design and data analysis

• Experience in deriving and utilizing neural cultures for cellular modeling of CNS diseases (e.g. 2D/3D iPSC cocultures) is a plus

• Work effectively and cross-functionally with multidisciplinary teams and external collaborators to advance ongoing exploratory and portfolio projects

• Prepare and communicate results at internal and external meetings, and in scientific publications

Minimum Requirements

What you will bring to the role:

• A high level of scientific understanding in neuroinflammatory diseases, in particular Multiple sclerosis with relevance to drug discovery and development

• A Ph.D. and significant experience in pharmacology, immunology or neuroscience with minimum 3 years of postdoctoral training

• Vast experience of working with in vivo efficacy models

• First-author publications in internationally recognized scientific journals

• Excellent communication and presentation skills in oral and written English

• Strong analytical and organizational skills

• Curiosity and a willingness to work independently
