The Head Accounting and Reporting China will ensure that all Novartis Divisions within the country are provided with effective and efficient finance accounting & reporting services to support local legislation and statutory requirements, whilst ensuring quality of financial accounting and management information for internal/external reporting. These services are delivered in a way that effective decision making throughout the company is supported, and compliance with Novartis Standards (i.e. NFCM, NAM) is ensured.

She/ he in addition to ensuring the accounting and control environment will also work hand in hand with the country/division CFO’s and BPA’s to ensure that they have a full understanding of the business environment and the potential impact this may have on financial accounting activities and controls.

She / he will be leading the R2R, O2C team and Division FRA leads, and will also ensure a strong talent pipeline.

Your responsibilities include, but are not limited to:
Leadership and Management
• Strong leader that is able to manage ambiguity, setting direction and driving the organization forward in a proactive way; Has a detailed understanding of the in country business strategy, potential future changes and any risks / opportunities that this may present to FRA Ops; Identify areas for further development and support of the local business to address compliance, efficiency or automation opportunities.
• The leader should demonstrate strong customer and business acumen as well as ease of operating at a senior level as part of a fast moving, challenging environment. There will be a necessity to support the design and implementation of new business models fully aligned with the realization of the China strategy; Influencing and strong communication skills will be critical as this role will involve discussions, challenging and management of sensitive issues with the country leadership team.

Implementation and Operations
• Lead team of O2C, R2R, and Division FRA Lead to provides Accounting Services to all Divisions related, and Ensures that Reporting data are compliant to Novartis standards and country statutory requirements. Measure regularly KPIs for relevant areas, ensure they are achieved and when not achieved, perform root-cause analysis define and execute corrective action plans; Liaise with Technical Accounting for complex accounting to confirm booking or seeking advice, and develop appropriate supporting documentation as required.
• Collaborate with BPA / Business / FC&C to ensure appropriate governance on new business programs and align on the accounting process; Provide financial support to CCFO and CFOs of legal entities to meet corporate governance duties.

• Ensure financial compliance/SOX 404 attestation by building/maintaining an appropriate control framework for activities performed in country, and supports FC&C as appropriate to enable timely and accurate attestation; Prepares quarterly SOX 302 disclosure reports for all Novartis Divisions activities in scope in the country, and aligns with the NGSC submission.
• Oversee relationships with internal and external auditors for services delivered in country, and supports in country FRA Ops FC&C in their review activity, as well as NGSC as appropriate.

• She/he will also build and develop talent, and drive a continuous improvement mindset in the organization and develop and execute training in the areas of process excellence, Financial IT systems, technical accounting, internal controls and fraud awareness, in country, as well as with the support of the NGSC.

Minimum Requirements

What you’ll bring to the role:
• University level degree in Business Administration/ Economics/Finance or Chartered Accountant / MBA desirable. CPA / Lean/ Six Sigma Certified preferred
• 15 years of operational finance experience, with at least 5 years people management experience. Pharma/healthcare/FMCG industry experience is preferred.
• Demonstrated ability to work effectively in a multi-national, matrix organization. Strong business acumen and enterprise mindset, FP&A experience preferred. In-depth functional expertise. Solid knowledge on IFRS and PRC GAAP
• Data & Digital savvy, advanced analytical capability preferred.
• Excellent collaboration to deliver results. Strong communication and influencing skills to drive partner management/rapport.
• Proof record on process improvement.
• Profound people skills and team management skills. Ability to coach, manage, align, motivate and develop team members.
• Mandarin plus fluent English (spoken and written).
