Job Description

6000! That’s the number of associates in the Novartis Institutes for BioMedical Research (NIBR). This division is the innovation engine of Novartis, focusing on powerful new technologies that have the potential to help produce therapeutic breakthroughs for patients.

The Novartis Institutes for BioMedical Research (NIBR) is the innovation engine of Novartis that collaborates across the company and beyond, focusing on powerful new technologies that have the potential to help produce therapeutic breakthroughs for patients. Translational Medicine (TM) is the clinical research arm of NIBR, and includes about 900 associates globally. TM plays a pivotal role in bringing innovative medicines to patients, by building on research advances to develop new therapies, and bridging drug discovery and clinical application.

TM Discovery & Profiling (TMDP) is a group of physicians and clinical researchers within NIBR that drive that innovative science from discovery to the patient through the selection, profiling, and effective development of medicines. Translational medicine experts oversee Phase 1 and 2 clinical trials to demonstrate proof of concept in patients, creating the case for drugs to proceed to late-stage development and registration. Translational medicine experts are also responsible for clinical pharmacology and mechanistic studies that support Phase 3 development.

As the Global Head, Clinical Pharmacology (CP) you will lead and direct a matrix team of medical experts, study leaders, pharmacokineticists, statisticians and outsourcing experts, responsible for all clinical pharmacology studies to support all Therapeutic Areas (TA) as well as selected Oncology programs. You will be a member of the Global Translational Medicine Discovery and Profiling and Pharmacokinetic Sciences Leadership Teams, accountable for overall department goals, helping to lead continuous improvement across the department, and enhancing the culture of TM.

• Deliver clear clinical pharmacology outcomes as required for compound development and registration.
• Collaborate with Development colleagues to agree prioritisation of the CP portfolio.
• Advise teams and review Clinical Pharmacology Plan for each candidate compound, and oversee review of these at the relevant decision boards.
• Work closely and effectively with TA TM Heads to foster collaborations and prioritisations of the portfolio.
• Foster strong external clinical collaborations with CROs / Phase I units in global locations. Provide oversight of the Clinical Research Organization (CRO) / Phase I unit and vendor(s) as it relates to clinical project level deliverables and relationship with key CRO (functional and project) and vendor counterpart
• Responsible for quality of CP clinical protocols, study reports and submission documents from the teams.
