Our Global Research Collaborations Team within Comparative Medicine supports the expansion of animal science, Preclinical care and research model development furthering research across the world. We are the innovation incubator within in vivo pre-clinical research and are the central partner for in vivo scientific input, organizing and performing all in vivo activities.

The Research Scientist role is a highly technical and/or specialized professional position responsible for supporting 14 disease areas including oncology, neuroscience and cardiovascular medicine, providing high quality & consistent in vivo technical research support within our multi-building, multi-discipline research program. This role will perform supplemental tasks in assisting the Manager and other delegated programmatic oversight duties as specified. Your responsibilities will include, but not limited to:
• Principally responsible for daily, hands-on technical in vivo research partnerships (i.e. compound administration, blood/tissue collection, clinical observation, etc.).
• Routinely responsible for ensuring compliance with all institutional and regulatory protocols, policies, and guidelines.
• Routinely responsible for managing assigned research support and liaising regularly with assigned research department personnel.
Developing and optimizing new in vivo models to support multiple disease area targets.
Regularly complete literature reviews to maintain familiarity with the latest technologies focused on improving current in vivo disease modeling.
Presentation of data and results to the Research Collaborations group and project teams.
• Responsible for pursing continuous learning/professional development opportunities and enhancing/expanding skill set as time allows.
• Other duties and responsibilities as may be required.

Minimum Requirements

What you will bring to the role:
•Advanced in-life technical procedure skills being able to handle, administer new molecular entities by various basic methods (e.g., SC, IP, PO, IV, IT) and bleeding techniques (e.g. Lateral tail vein, Saphenous vein, Dorsal aorta/vena cava) Optimize techniques, refinement and model development in Mouse, Rat, Rabbit, G-Pig, across four vivaria.
•Self-motivated individual with experience operating in a cross-functional team acting as a point of contact for experimental studies
•Proven background in optimizing in vivo techniques and generating data.
•Preferred experience in necropsy, histology hands on skilled (Full tissue list, Wet trimming and Embedding)
•Preferred basic lab experience – PCR, Gene expression, Western blots, FACs. Data analysis – Graph pad prism
•Experience of operating within a barrier-maintained facility carrying out in-vivo studies utilizing micro-isolator techniques
•Detail oriented, knowledgeable around the IACUC/AWC compliance, regulation, able to generate, read, fully understand and execute direction, utilize paper and electronic study protocols, document experiments in laboratory notebook.
•Advanced computer skills using Excel, OneDrive, Word and Outlook, being able to collect and record research data (Pristima trained) having the ability and knowledge to review documentation as a quality control.
•4-year Science degree, 2-year degree in Veterinary Sciences or an equivalent combination of experience along with higher education are desired or country specific equivalents as applicable
•ALAT Certification desirable or pursued after start, or country specific equivalents as applicable
•Fully capable in mathematic & compound dose/volume administration calculation skills
•Superior written and oral communication and data documentation skills required
•Working knowledge of federal, state, local (Animal Welfare) laws, departmental SOP’s and Good Laboratory Practices.
•Thorough understanding and comprehension of operational facts, techniques, nomenclature, equipment, theories, etc. as they relate specifically to job performance function in the laboratory animal research environment

Qualified candidates will have a strong commitment to providing quality research support, dedication to animal welfare and team performance, while expanding both their scientific knowledge and in vivo technical skills. Candidates must be reliable, independent, driven in the pursuit of first in class science, work well in a dynamic, fast-paced team environment, focused on attention-to-detail in providing consistent, high-quality results. Must be able to lift 50 lbs. Must be able to work from a standing position for prolonged time periods and perform repetitive motion tasks. Able to work weekends (Potential to operate in a four day shifted schedule either Thursday to Sunday or Wednesday to Saturday) holidays and during inclement weather.
