Global Payroll Tax Head , Novartis, Prague, Czech Republic

1! excellent opportunity to join our global P&O Services Integration and Delivery team. The main purpose of this position is to manage high quality, centralized, standardized, and compliant process for calculation of the USD ~5 billion payroll / Employment taxes operations for currently about 110’000 employees in a model based on outsourced payroll services. This position will oversee and manage all relevant aspects of payroll compliance in employment taxes calculation for domestic, International assignees and executives and is the critical link between the Employment Taxes service delivery teams and the global CoE’s for P&O, IT and Finance.

Your key responsibilities:

Your responsibilities include, but are not limited to:

• Leads the Global Payroll compliance team) who are in charge of Payroll controls to assure a proper tax reporting and calculation.
• Is Accountable for global process and controls that ensures payroll accuracy with respect to employment tax (including social security) withholding, reporting and payment to authorities; co-creates the definition and implementation of standard best practice processes that provide payroll accuracy. Controls, reviews and signs-off all sources of data to ensure payroll completeness and correctness and defines and implements reconciliation processes globally.
• Collaborates on and drives internal reviews and audits to support countries and determines level of employment tax compliance and risk. Closely monitors and takes action to remediate areas of risk and resolves outstanding issues. Evaluates the use of technology interventions (including integrations) to ensure the highest level of payroll accuracy – e.g. Human Capital Management system, Share plan administrators, Mobility and Equity Tax technology.
• Determines what can be centralized or put into service centers, and what should remain local. Accountable for determining that there is sufficient local expertise to deal with necessary in-country filings. Reviews the level and nature of external support Novartis receives from its payroll global vendor and in-countries operations.
• Accountable for any Company employment tax filings globally (e.g. share plan returns), working through country organizations to achieve this. Maintains a list of all Company employment tax filings per country and individuals accountable for preparing and submitting the filings; works with the individuals and vendors to ensure accuracy of company filings.
• Leads any payroll compliance audits globally and determines audit strategy and approach, ensures it follows employment tax principles. Pulls together the right individual from the country and globally to respond quickly and appropriately to the tax authority audit; tracks all global payroll compliance audits and reports.
• Accountable for ensuring countries receive up-to-date information regarding local employment tax regulations and that those regulations are appropriately implemented. Accountable for defining and implementing global employment tax strategy and principles and work with Head of Employment Tax and other stakeholders to ensure consistency with global tax strategy
• Leads, coaches, motivates and develops a team utilizing team and individual performance results; Drives cultural change and fosters diversity and inclusion within the cluster team and enables the overall Knowledge Base and Nimbus management by building the right talent and skills.

Minimum Requirements

What you’ll bring to the role:

• Bachelor's degree in accounting, business or a related field (master's degree preferred); advanced degrees/ Certifications such as: CPA, CMA, Six Sigma, PMP and Agile Scrum Master Certification are preferred
• 10 or more years of managerial experience in a similar senior payroll and employment tax service delivery role (including Time operations and implementation, complexity management; understanding/exposure of relevant legislation and tax principles and of complex payroll tax cases) preferably in complex, international corporations
• Knowledge and experience with stock, travel and time and attendance programs; including set-ting up Payroll & Tax requirements for new tax entities
• Experience leading large scale implementations, integration programs, and managing opera-tional delivery in a managed service model; qualified tax Professional in at least one location
• Experience in transitioning and/or shifting payroll services from local to central locations
• Experience managing several large payroll vendors and contracts; including negotiations skills, and industry exposure, contracting, business case modelling
• Sound vendor management skills in a matrix organization with global and regional magnitude (including experience in chairing global service review meetings with key stakeholders, conduct-ing root cause analysis and action planning); sound coaching skills, and experience in guiding Employment Taxes Operations Managers located in the Novartis Global and Regional Service Centers
• Excellent English spoken and written

• Ability to work effectively across all levels and layers of the organization
• Work experience in virtual/remote teams preferred
