Over 35 preclinical targets in our pipeline! Novartis Institutes for BioMedical Research (NIBR) Oncology strives to reimagine medicines for cancer patients through a combination of treatment approaches including targeted therapies, immunotherapies, CAR-T, and radioligand therapy!

Oncology Data Science is seeking a computational biologist to work closely with both other data scientists and wet lab members of the oncology team, as you explore our extensive characterization of thousands of preclinical models using machine learning, help design and analyze new groundbreaking ‘omics assays with NGS know-how, and open up the boundaries in research for discovering new targets and combinations in a range of cancer indications. The successful candidate will be highly motivated, creative, curious, collaborative, and excited to join a team working to cure cancer.

YOUR RESPONSIBILITIES:

• Implementing and developing state-of-the-art computational methods and data mining strategies to address key challenges in oncology drug discovery including drug resistance, tumor heterogeneity, and ways to tackle difficult-to-drug targets
• Working closely with wet and dry lab collaborators to analyze and interpret high-dimensional data such as CRISPR screens, single-cell RNAseq, and proteomics
• Analyzing and integrating large proprietary internal data from bespoke assays with public resources such as CCLE, TCGA, and DepMap
• Supporting translational genomics, model characterization, and data mining efforts to seek unmet medical needs
• Formulating testable hypotheses and collaborating in the design of rigorous experiments.

Minimum Requirements

What you’ll bring to the role:

• MS (or BS with equivalent experience) in computational biology, bioinformatics, systems biology, biostatistics, computer science, or related field
• An understanding of the fundamental concepts in bioinformatics, statistics, and cell biology preferably in an oncology environment
• Proven excellent data visualization and interpretation skills and ability to communicate optimally with partners and bioinformatics colleagues
• Ability to evaluate and apply sophisticated mathematical and computational concepts to problem-solving situations
• Proficiency in R or Python; competency working in a Linux environment; experience with bioinformatics tools (e.g. Bioconductor, bwa) and biological databases (e.g. MSigDB, GO, PDB)
