We are expanding the core of our Analytical Characterization (AC) team in Kundl, Austria – to supply cutting edge analytics and in-depth protein knowledge for challenging biosimilar projects or new biological entities (NBEs) within analytical characterization in biologics development at Novartis. NBEs and biosimilars are supported from the early development phase to commercialization and up to life-cycle management activities. AC applies a wide range of physico-chemical analytical techniques with a focus on mass spectrometry to characterize biopharmaceutical products.

We look for an associate with profound interest and joy in protein, peptide and glycan analysis. You are genuinely intrigued by mastering new analytical challenges and willing to stay on track “till all the riddles are solved”.

Your key responsibilities:

Your responsibilities include, but are not limited to:
• You plan, perform and document scientific experiments for the characterization of therapeutic proteins, their posttranslational modifications and degradation products under minimal supervision using a range of physico-chemical analysis methods.
• Essential tasks include generation, evaluation and interpretation of data as well as proper communication of results.
• You perform and document complex analytical tasks within the scope of established procedures.
• You prepare/contribute to technical documents including reports or analytical procedures.
• You will implement new methods or optimize existing methods and processes. Furthermore, your contribution to systematically screen and implement new technologies is expected.
• You will be responsible for the maintenance and qualification of lab equipment and be involved in lab organizational tasks.
• You participate in function-specific sub teams and fulfill assigned tasks and responsibilities under minimal supervision.

Minimum Requirements

What you’ll bring to the role:
• Technical expert studies with MSc in Chemistry, Pharmacy, Biology or other natural sciences, or education as lab technician in associated disciplines.
• You bring along basic protein chemistry knowledge and the ability to apply this knowledge to analytical challenges.
• You have a pivotal interest in instrumental analytical approaches and the drive to obtain proficiency in new technologies in short time. You are able to think “outside the box” and explore new avenues of analytical characterization.
• Fluency in English (oral and written), knowledge of German is a plus

Desirable requirements:
• Experience in the biopharmaceutical industry
• Basic scientific/technical writing and presentation skills
• Experience in protein/peptide/glycan separation approaches (i.e. chromatographic, various modes)
• Independent, thorough, and reliable working style

In accordance with Austrian law, we are obliged to disclose the minimum salary as stated in the collective bargaining agreement. For this position the minimum salary is € 37.756,32/year (on a full time basis). We also offer a potential market oriented excess payment in line with your experience and qualifications.
