Job Description

The Vice President, US Procurement Lead for Commercial will be driving value through the design and implementation of business aligned procurement strategies across all Novartis divisions. This VP manages and influences a broad network of highest-level touch points in the organization to drive strategy implementation.

Influence extends to peers, team members, sites, functions and key partners to build their trust and support for strategy approval and implementation. This Procurement Lead will be part of the leadership team of the Customer Technology and Solutions Organization for the US and would have a seat on the Leadership teams of the US Pharma CFO and US Oncology CFO leadership teams.

This role requires a transformational leader to drive the delivery of world-class procurement services to business partners across Novartis divisions; including alignment of business requirements, strategic sourcing expertise, supplier market intelligence, financial productivity and risk mitigation.


Responsibilities to include but not limited to:

•Lead a team in developing and executing on strategies that build capability for long term growth and sustainability
for categories: Agencies, Meeting, Print and Travel.
•Develop and implement procurement strategies and priorities that align with those of Novartis and relevant divisional or functional objectives
•Establish effective ongoing relationships with senior stakeholders in all divisions and business units to ensure Procurement activities effectively support functional strategies
•Act as an ambassador of local procurement into global procurement and vice versa
•Provide active leadership and change management support that challenges traditional spending behavior, service level definition, and policy setting to enable productivity and efficiency improvements
•Define and implement a strong concept of key supplier management that enables strategic relationships with partners delivering a sustainable competitive advantage to Novartis
•Increase the value of supplier relationships through the identification and delivery of supplier-led innovation
•Negotiate and execute complex commercial agreements as needed
•Provides high level procurement solutions to the business and category strategies for Agencies, Meeting, Print and Travel.
•Ensures best in class service delivery of external services and products in these categories.
•Develop and implement relevant global, regional, and local category strategies where appropriate, leveraging cross-divisional volumes and synergies at the highest possible level
•Ensure procurement practices are in accordance with corporate ethics, financial policy and internal control requirements
•Lead a high performing team responsible for collaborating with business partners, forming and implementing category strategies and delivering value through the execution of procurement projects
•Ensure the ongoing development of relevant skills within the team, including learning agility, using data to provide insights, business partnering, change and project management, category management and strategic sourcing in order to realize optimal results for Novartis
•Provide talent management, leadership and mentoring to ensure a strong succession pipeline and clear development pathways for Procurement associates
