Scientist in Mechanistic Immunology

6000! That’s the number of associates in the Novartis Institutes for BioMedical Research (NIBR). This division is the innovation engine of Novartis, focusing on powerful new technologies that have the potential to help produce therapeutic breakthroughs for patients.
We are seeking a highly motivated and collaborative scientist (Research Scientist II or Senior scientist I) with expertise in human immunology to join us in the Mechanistic Immunology (MI) group, within Novartis Biologics Center (NBC) at NIBR in Basel.
Our group focuses in understanding and exploiting immunological mechanisms in healthy and pathological conditions, and upon disease treatment, to support the generation of novel biotherapeutics modalities and the characterization of emerging immuno-regulatory targets in the context of immuno-oncology and autoimmunity.

The role is limited for 6-9 months.



Your key responsibilities:
• Develop and independently execute immunological, cellular and biochemical assays needed to assess immune cells effector functions
• Conduct ex vivo cell based assays and co-culture using T cells subsets from human peripheral blood and tissues to study functional interactions with tumor cells with multiparameter analysis of immune cells’ phenotype and function
• Critically analyze and interpret data, able to prioritize experiments and design follow-up experiments
• Work collaboratively with team members of the Mechanistic Immunology groups and with other internal collaborators at NIBR
• Regularly communicate and present results to lab head and teams, prepare protocols and reports
• Open mindset, ability and eagerness to learn novel techniques or analysis tools based on project needs
Maintain familiarity with scientific and technical literature pertinent to the projects
