We are seeking a highly motivated and skilled research scientist to join the Immune Modulation (iMOD) team within NIBR’s Exploratory Immuno-Oncology department. The emergence of cancer immunotherapies has carried us into an exciting and transformative period in cancer care. However, despite the immense success immune-modulating therapies, relapse and resistance remain an obstacle in many tumor types. To address these obstacles, the iMOD group investigates nodes of suppression against the anti-tumor immune responses.

As part of this team, you will help explore novel therapeutic approaches aimed at altering key components of the cellular network supporting the immune-suppressive tumor microenvironment. Our goal is to eliminate or modulate those components that facilitate cancer growth, confer drug resistance, or repress anti-tumor immunity. Can we reshape or redesign the tumor microenvironment in favorable ways? We are seeking a motivated individual with an interest in pursuing the potential of this therapeutic approach.

The high-quality data generated by your efforts will directly affect the development of novel treatment methods and contribute to the design of future clinical trials. This position will be ideal for those candidates wishing to combine their interest in immuno-biology of cancer, with their strong desire to discover and help develop therapeutic approaches.

Key Responsibilities:
•Plan, optimize, and execute experiments independently; accurately record, analyze, and communicate data to senior staff and team members.
•Utilize a variety of analytical techniques and equipment to both validate therapeutic targets/approaches and generate new biological insights.
•Conduct in vitro studies utilizing primary cells and cell lines to probe targets of interest and validate potential therapeutic tools and reagents.
•Conduct in vivo studies on mouse models of cancer to validate efficacy of tools/reagents, and assess biological or disease relevance of potential therapeutic targets.
•Work with internal and external partners to test, optimize and advance new therapies into early development.
•Present results in team meetings and deliver presentations to both small and large groups.

Minimum Requirements

What you will bring to the role:

Essential requirements:
•BS/MS degree in biology-related subject area with 2-5 years of relevant research experience. Job title and grade level will be commensurate with experience and skillset.
•Experience with in vivo mouse handling and study design.
•Strong verbal and writing skills for documentation of data, drafting of technical reports, and communication of progress to manager and other team members.
•Strong presentation skills, and the ability to work in a fast-paced and team-oriented environment.
•Demonstrated ability to quickly learn and perform in new areas, implement new techniques and instrumentation.
•Accepts and responds positively to constructive feedback.
•Scientifically motivated, and capable of independently conducting, and critically analyzing his/her own research.
Desirable requirements:
•Technical expertise in cell and molecular biology techniques.
•Knowledge of immunology, tumor biology, and/or CAR-T cell therapies.
