Human Genetics Data Scientist

Job Description

35 million! The estimated number of genomes that will be sequenced by 2025. How will you use this knowledge to help us reimagine medicine?

We are looking for a puzzle solver at heart, a computational sleuth to work in a team to bring together human genetics data with other pieces of data to find and stop the drivers of disease.

Data scientists love challenges: are you looking to make a difference? Then use your knowledge in genetics and omics, like scRNAseq, to help us understand diseases at atomic granularity in the Data Science group in the department of Chemical Biology and Therapeutics (CBT). CBT is the catalyst for early drug discovery and we partner with deep experts in biology, chemistry, translational medicine, and more to discover new targets, identify ways to change the course of a disease, and innovate the science of drug discovery.

Your responsibilities:
Your responsibilities include, but are not limited to:
• Developing innovative methods that have the potential to shorten the timelines in early drug discovery research from target identification to target validation
• Using your high-learning capacity and curiosity to learn about new data type and integrate them with a solution-based approach to problem-solving
• Applying your years of hands-on expertise in computer science, statistics, computational biology, and genomics
• Working independently and in a team to prototype and implement cutting edge methods to derive actionable hypotheses from heterogeneous, large, and complex datasets

Minimum Requirements

What you’ll bring to the role:
• Problem solving mindset coupled with excellent scripting skills (R and / or python) and a proficiency in Linux, git, SQL, and relevant software packages
• PhD and publications in population, applied, or statistical genetics or a related genetics field
• Experience with genome-wide association studies, quantitative trait loci, fine mapping, etc
• Understanding or hands-on-the-keyboard experience with data beyond genetics including sequencing data types such as single cell RNAseq, proteomics, etc
• Desire to work in teams and the ability to communicate your science with broad audiences (English oral and written, any additional language a plus)
Desirable requirements:
• Expertise in applying machine learning approaches to genomic data or data integration
