The Associate Director – HSE & Extended Producer Responsibility (EPR) is responsible for facilitating the implementation of the Global HSE Strategy by providing technical expertise and guidance on product stewardship, particularly Extended Producer Responsibility, and global environmental regulatory compliance for Novartis organizations globally. Oversees HSE support, programs, and initiatives focusing specifically on global compliance with extended producer responsibility requirements for Novartis.


Your responsibilities:
Your responsibilities include, but are not limited to:

• Coordinates the implementation of the Global HSE Strategy in EMEA/Asia/Americas with a specific focus on Extended Producer Responsibility (EPR).
• Leads Novartis efforts to comply with global EPR legislation for its pharmaceutical products under the direction of the Global Head of Environmental Compliance.
• Acts as a subject matter expert for EPR, product stewardship, and environmental regulations in Europe and North and South America.
• Monitors emerging environmental compliance and product stewardship topics globally and reports back to support compliance.
• Advises the Global HSE Team on local context and potential HSE challenges and opportunities associated with changing environmental regulations globally
• Assure Novartis compliance with all EPR legislation. This includes submissions of covered product lists to state regulators, responding directly to regulatory requests regarding Board of Pharmacy licenses, covered products (medicines and sharps), National Drug Codes, and institutional hierarchy.
• Work directly with country legal, government affair, and senior business leadership for compliance-based EPR requests.
• Provides guidance on Environmental compliance with all pertinent HSE regulations in the Regions, permits, statutes, local ordinances and/or other externally or internally driven requirements

Minimum Requirements

What you’ll bring to the role:

• University degree in safety management, safety engineering, industrial hygiene, environmental science, occupational health and/or medicine, engineering, or related field. Master’s degree in above-mentioned fields is highly desirable.
• 8+ years relevant experience with knowledge and work experience in HSE, specifically in environmental compliance and product stewardship
• Experience in extended producer responsibility regulations and compliance; interpreting legal requirements related to environment and identifying emerging regulations and their impact on a multi-national company.
• Experience in leading high impact processes and implementation of improvements across global/regional matrix organizations with cross-functional exposure; with track record of operational effectiveness/innovation and of working with diverse teams and remote business relationships
• Has in-depth understanding of following areas:
o Environmental Compliance
o Environmental sustainability and product stewardship
o Region and country-specific HSE compliance requirements
o Environmental Impact
o ISO14001 management systems
o Project management
• Experience in product stewardship in a multi-national company highly desirable
