Job Description

• Lead and build the Innovative Medicines communications strategy and capabilities for the designated country including; anticipating and managing risk & advising division management of reputational risk associated with specific activity.
• Manage the successful implementation of all external and/or internal Innovative Medicines communications & patient engagement activities in key projects and programs in the relevant business and geographic areas.
• Provide expertise in a single communications area and broad knowledge of several diverse areas (Associate Engagement, External Relations, Brand PR, Social-Digital).
• Counsel senior management in all aspects of communications and high-level patient engagement, select media spokespeople, conduct media training, and develop communications messages around key programs and initiatives.
• Oversee the management and development of local teams and allocate communication resources and personnel to meet business objectives and coordinate communication teams to ensure implementation of strategy/action plans.
• Establish and maintain relationships with key external stakeholders such as media, patient groups, politicians, etc. and ensure consistency of Novartis brand and market position in all communications.
• Build, monitor and evaluate the Function’s performance to achieve and maintain best-in-class performance, while being fully consistent with the evolving legal, regulatory and compliance environment.
• Direct the development, review and approval of Communications policies and procedures, and monitor implementation, ensuring alignment with group communications strategy and policies.

Minimum Requirements

Graduate with specialization in Mass Communications or Graduate with Diploma in Public Relations/Mass Media. Marketing Communication background an advantage.
Excellent English communication skills – both oral and written

• 15+ years of relevant experience in Communications function in a large Multinational organization. Exposure to journalism and other related fields would be an added advantage
• Ability to network with and influence Novartis leadership teams of various functions at Global, Region and Country levels
• Experience of working within a science based, large scale, global organization – preferably a pharmaceutical company
• Track record of successfully managing communications for large change initiatives
• Demonstrated understanding of the drivers of effective employee engagement and experience in running engagement programs
• Ability to quickly develop an understanding of new business and strategy models, and of new tools and processes if required
• People Leadership capabilities – able to Inspire and lead high performing team
