We are looking for a candidate who will lead NIBR’s Compound Management & Automation Group in Emeryville and will be responsible for setting the short and long-term strategic goals of the group to help enable and effectively support NIBR portfolio and projects. This will include establishing a forward-looking multiyear capital investment plan to maintain and meet the current and future needs of the site. In this role, you will collaborate with Lead Discovery and Hit Generation teams in Emeryville and GDC Automation and Compound Management teams globally to influence and execute strategies to help enable and accelerate drug discovery. Reporting to the Head of Operations & Strategy, NIBR- Emeryville, you will have overall responsibility for the Compound Management & Automation Group in Emeryville. You will also be responsible to lead the day-to-day activities, including workflows, process design and optimization, automation and informatics integration, and will make material contributions to the activities of the group. As a leader of the Compound Management & Automation team, you will guide and develop members of your team to their fullest potential.

Your responsibilities:

• Senior Principal Scientist, Compound Management should have a strong interest in solving scientific and technical challenges in a dynamic research environment.
• A good knowledge and understanding of small molecule drug discovery processes is required.
• Direct expertise and working experience in process design and optimization, automated sample management, liquid handling, integrated data handling, and informatics integration is essential.
• Expertise in the programming, validation and maintenance of a diverse set of laboratory automation systems including integrated screening platforms, standalone liquid handling workstations and automated compound storage systems is desirable.
• Excellent judgment and strong managerial success are essential.
• The successful candidate should demonstrate significant management and leadership skills.
• The ideal candidate must be able to achieve results through others while managing direct reports to high levels of performance.

Minimum requirements

What you will bring to the role:

• BS with at least ten years of experience.
• Proven skills in developing and implementing efficient workflow processes, and success in leading teams of specialists in a matrix environment should be demonstrated.
• Demonstrated success in working with multiple customer groups to deliver solutions enabling them to achieve their goals should also be exemplified.
• Leadership experience in successfully building a team around a common vision and managing change is required.
• Excellent written, oral, and presentation skills in order to communicate effectively at the operational and strategic levels should be demonstrated.

Desirable:

• Ideal Candidate would have PhD or MS in scientific discipline such as biology, chemistry or pharmacology and six or more years of experience in Sample Management, Automation.
• Project management experience is a plus.
