For over 21 years, the Genomics Institute of the Novartis Research Foundation (GNF) has been doing cutting-edge innovative drug discovery for Novartis global research organization, the Novartis Institute for BioMedical Research (NIBR).

The successful candidate will join an energizing and collaborative research environment working alongside colleagues who are committed to improving human health through the discovery of transformative medicines.

Your Responsibilities:

The successful candidate will be able to work independently, be able to multi-task, be able to work collaboratively in teams, and be adaptable to changing needs.
• Primarily responsible for executing organic synthesis in a timely, efficient, and independent manner.
• Maintain a current understanding of the synthetic literature as well as scientific literature related to the ongoing project.
• Scientifically independent with ability to identify and resolve routine obstacles.
• Utilize contemporary medicinal chemistry principles in the proposal and execution of innovative chemistry strategies.
• Maintain high productivity as a laboratory-based synthetic/medicinal chemist.
• Collaborate as part of an interactive cross-functional drug discovery team.
• Interpret a variety of biological data and plan next steps based on the available information and team guidance.
• Collaborate with peers to support a variety of departmental activities.
• Clearly and effectively communicate ideas and results (both verbally and in writing) to a broad range of audiences.

Minimum requirements

What you will bring to the role:

• Master’s degree in organic synthesis with 0-5 years of relevant working experience or Bachelor’s degree in chemistry with 3-10 years of working experience.
• Demonstrated effective communication skills, both verbal and written.
• Excellent hands-on experience in synthesizing biologically active compounds.
• Strong record of accomplishments as evidenced by publications/patents.
• Demonstrated ability to work in a fast-paced, flexible, collaborative team environment.


• Experience in drug discovery
• A strong desire to grow as a medicinal chemist while maintaining a passion for organic chemistry and the courage to challenge conventional wisdom are essential
