CBT Basel is offering an exciting opportunity for an exceptional scientist with a dual experimental and computational background to join our efforts to discover novel therapeutics and drug targets. We are seeking a highly motivated and innovative scientist with a vision to combine data and lab work to synergize for drug discovery impact. The candidate will nucleate an integrated team combining expert target validation approaches with the massive amount of drug discovery and biomedical data for disease target discovery and validation.

The CBT department encompasses the full-spectrum of advanced capabilities and cutting-edge technologies needed to succeed in a state-of-the-art and collaborative drug discovery environment.

Your responsibilities will include but are not limited to:

• Define and implement an integrated dry and wet lab disease target validation framework
• Nucleate a small team bridging wet and dry lab teams with platforms for data powered disease target identification and validation
• Engage in an interdisciplinary and collaborative environment to initiate and lead new research and drug discovery projects
• Perform research as a contributing bench scientist, liaise with research teams within CBT as well as across diverse Disease Areas
• Develop relationships with external stakeholders and collaborators and represent Novartis values of transparency, integrity, courage, innovation, quality and collaboration

Minimum requirements

What you'll bring to the role:

• Ph.D. in biology, biochemistry, genetics or related fields
• Thorough understanding of human genetics with experience in genome-wide genetics ideally in complex cellular systems
• Solid (not expert) bioinformatic skills, demonstrated learning agility, scientific curiosity, hands-on attitude with exceptional collaboration and communication skills
• An exceptional record of accomplishments that demonstrate innovation, productivity and capability to work in a constantly evolving, collaborative and interdisciplinary research structure.
• Demonstrated ability to initiate, contibute to and lead projects to answer key questions in areas involving target identification, cell signaling pathway dissection, disease biology understanding using small molecules and/or genetic approaches.
• Pragmatic risk taking to create new hypotheses and drug finding opportunities and interest in engaging with peers for the design and implementation of these ideas.
