Job Description

1 purpose....to reimagine medicine. Novartis Institute of Biomedical Research is seeking an experienced project leader in small molecule oncology drug discovery to join our Oncology Disease Area (DA) in Cambridge MA. The successful candidate will join a dynamic, multi-disciplinary team of scientists, playing a key role in the development of new therapies for cancer.

The ideal candidate would meld a deep understanding of cancer biology with experience in small molecule drug discovery to lead drug discovery projects from inception to the clinic. As such the candidate will be expected to have a track record of delivering projects to IND and an outstanding scientific reputation underscored by relevant scientific publications . The successful candidate will have significant experience in leading cross-functional teams in a matrix organization and interacting with clinical development functions.

Key to success will be the ability to effectively lead, coach, motivate and communicate within a high performing multidisciplinary environment.

Minimum requirements

Desirable Qualifications:
•PhD in the life sciences
•A comprehensive, in-depth knowledge of Oncology research, particularly related to drug discovery and development as evidenced by a minimum of 5 years industry experience.

Specifically:
•Comprehensive, in-depth knowledge of cancer biology and small molecule drug discovery and development
•Experience leading small molecule drug discovery projects through lead optimization to candidate selection and IND enabling studies
•Proven team leadership experience and the ability to lead, coach and mentor in a matrixed organization.
•Detail-oriented, self-motivated and scientifically driven, proficient reasoning skills in experimental design, data analysis and interpretation
•Familiarity with the use of bioinformatics tools and applications
•Excellent communication and interpersonal skills, including the ability of providing timely and open feedback
•Demonstrated ability to present experimental data to diverse audiences such as project teams and executive boards
•A strong publication record in high impact journals
