The Neuroscience Department within the Novartis Institutes for Biomedical Research (NIBR) in Basel, Switzerland, is searching for an experienced research associate. This individual will assume hands-on role within the in vivo neuroinflammation team and contribute to several research projects focused on the development of new therapies for neurodegenerative disorders. The focus will be on novel neuroimmune cell pathways to elucidate the mechanisms at the molecular, cellular and ex vivo/in vivo level. Joining our team, you will independently plan, execute, document, analyze and interpret experiments.

Responsibilities will include but are not limited to:

• Design, conduct and protocol independently in vivo studies with specific focus on neuroinflammatory pathways
• Establish new in vivo models for neuroinflammatory/neurodegenerative diseases and perform and interpret ex vivo analyses with emphasis on histology, biochemistry, FACS and molecular biology
• Develop and execute in vitro cellular assays for assessing inflammatory processes
• Present data and put it in a complex context
• Implement new lab techniques according to literature

Minimum requirements

What you will bring to the role:

• University degree (MSc) or equivalent qualification in Life Science discipline, preferably neuroscience, immunology or cell biology, fluency in English other languages plus
• Strong expertise in in vivo work e.g. different routes of dosing, surgery, behavior, perfusion. Relevant in vivo course available (e.g. LTK1)
• Experience in different histological methods, microscopy and image analyses as well as RNA and DNA technologies and biochemical methods
• Good knowledge of immunology and immunological methods such as flow cytometry, HTRF, ELISA as well as in cell culture work
• Used to evaluating large datasets, strong documentation capabilities and interest to use new informatics analysis tools
