Job Description

500+ million people worldwide suffer from chronic obstructive pulmonary disease (COPD) and asthma. The Novartis Institutes for BioMedical Research is seeking an innovative scientist to join the Drug Discovery Core group in the Respiratory Diseases Department to develop novel biochemical and assays, and biophysical ultimately develop transformative therapies for these patients.

The successful candidate will work in an interdisciplinary group that builds exploratory respiratory efforts into vibrant drug discovery projects. She/he will have demonstrated competency in various target-based assay technologies as part of the lead discovery and optimization process. This will entail using these assays to drive decision-making activities to bring forward development candidates for transformative therapies in respiratory disease.

Minimum requirements

• BS or MS (or equivalent) in biochemistry, biological chemistry, or related discipline and a minimum of 3 years related laboratory experience in an academic or industrial drug discovery setting in a role providing in vitro support to project teams with a strong emphasis on biochemical assay development and MoA studies.
• Proven expertise in biochemical assay development (HTRF, FRET, NanoBiT, or FP, Luminescence-based), focused screening, and LMW hit validation.
• Experience with compound screening formats, laboratory instrumentation and automation, data analysis and management, and a sound knowledge of the drug discovery process.
• Ability to independently design experiments and generate, analyze, and present data.
• Familiarity with compound handling and the identification and implementation of new technologies that will improve the quality of lead compounds.
• Strong written and verbal communication skills.
• Able to work independently in a fast-paced environment.
• Qualified candidates will have a commitment to scientific excellence, an appreciation for multidisciplinary technology integration, and an ability to troubleshoot and solve problems.
