Job Description

As an Innovation Program Director (IPD) you will join a Clinical Innovation team in NIBR Translational Medicine and be accountable for the content and implementation our innovation strategic plan within Clinical Sciences & Innovation (CS&I) and Translational Medicine (TM).

You will independently be accountable for direction of multiple overarching innovative and/or novel trial technology programs, from design to delivery, including their interfaces and co-development with other Novartis divisions at the enterprise level to achieve breakthrough solutions with impacts across Novartis.

Innovative programs encompass novel patient centric approaches, clinical trial operations and management. As an Innovation Program Director, you will ensure implementation and successful deployment, and serve as a champion and thought leader for ongoing projects.

You will be part of a departmental innovation team, as well as a broader Novartis innovation community, championing new approaches as well as evaluating and importing new opportunities from outside of Novartis.

In this role your main responsibilities will be to:

• Contribute to short, medium and long-term strategies for innovation in Translational Medicine, and be responsible for execution of overarching elements of the strategic innovation plan by leading projects and partnering with/coaching collaborative teams.
• As part of the Innovation team, track and review progress of all initiatives and projects in CS&I and ensure they embed and support strategic imperatives as required.
• Collaborate and establish strong partnerships with other Novartis units and divisions on sharing in capability building and resources to lead efforts for company-wide implementation of future clinical trial operations.
• Ensure awareness of trends in the industry in the field of innovation in pharmaceuticals and clinical trials by scanning external & internal operational trends and evaluating new innovative technologies and practices to continuously evolve.
• Design and lead creation and deployment of data-driven innovations to business model that result in step-change in trial management processes and practices with significant enhancements to efficiency and productivity.
• Champion innovative and digital improvement projects across Novartis Innovation portfolio, in order to enhance the innovative and curious mindset of Translational Medicine and Novartis – ensuring Novartis is a leader in this space.
• Identify process and technology improvements for continuous improvement and drive implementation in Translational Medicine in collaboration with partners. Connect with internal/external innovative opportunities.

Minimum requirements

What you will bring to the role:

PhD, Masters, or BSc level degree in life sciences or related field, with significant related experience in pharmaceuticals/technology.

Experience/Professional Requirement:

• 10+ years experience in the Pharmaceutical Industry / clinical drug development. Strong working knowledge and deep experience of clinical development and clinical trial operations.
• Passionate and deeply knowledgeable about innovation frameworks, constructs, and innovation strategies.
• Significant experience in leading and managing innovative or technological improvement projects for clinical trials, with demonstrated record of success.
• Operational project management experience including excellent planning, prioritization, problem solving and organizational skills. Track record of successfully leading multiple complex projects concurrently.
• Expertise in constructing business/value cases along various verticals and through different “lenses” (e.g., quality/time/cost, people/process/technology, startup/conduct/closeout, etc.).
• High level of organizational awareness, including significant experience working cross-functionally and in global and cross-divisional teams.
• Strong and demonstrated success with customer orientation awareness and focus, particularly focused on development of new tools and methodologies.
