Job Description

6500! That’s the number of associates in the Novartis Institutes for BioMedical Research (NIBR). This division is the innovation engine of Novartis, focusing on powerful new technologies that have the potential to help produce therapeutic breakthroughs for patients.

The role of the scientific associate is to contribute to the NIBR drug discovery process with the goal to discover treatments for unmet medical needs which ultimately serve the patient.

Responsibilities include but are not limited to:

• Design, development and carrying out of novel biochemical/biophysical (enzymatic, binding or biophysical) assays using a wide range of technologies
• Contribution to functional characterization of proteins considered as potential drug targets
• Profiling of compounds and characterization of their mechanism of action
• Design of the experiments, data analysis, interpretation and detailed documentation of the results
• Work in teams and presentation of results to teams.

Minimum requirements

What you’ll bring the role:

• Good hands-on experience in conventional assay technologies used in drug discovery e.g. FI, TR-FRET, FP, AlphaScreen, SPA.
• Experience with biophysical methods such as SPR and ITC would be of advantage
• Experience in data analysis with standard curve fitting software such as XLfit or GraphPad Prism.
• Knowledge in lab automation (small laboratory workstations e.g. Biomek 4000) would be of advantage
• Demonstrated experience in drug discovery will be advantageous.
