The Chemical Biology & Therapeutics (CBT) department at the Novartis Institutes for Biomedical Research (NIBR) in Cambridge, MA has an exciting opportunity for a B.S. or M.S. level scientist. In this role, you will be part of a team focused on early drug discovery. The candidate should have a core expertise in mammalian cell biology and biochemistry. Your primary responsibility will be to develop disease-relevant cell-based assays, validate targets and characterize hit low molecular weight compounds in close collaboration with our disease area partners.


• Cell Biology: Mammalian cell culture, transfection, electroporation, stable and transient cell line selection, proliferation, ELISA, FACS, reporter assays, gene silencing by RNAi
• Molecular Biology: PCR, qRT-PCR, DNA and RNA purification
• Biochemistry: SDS-PAGE, Western Blot, antibodies
• Automation: CytoFluor, Envision, Spectrophotometer, Taqman RT-PCR
• Computer Skills: FlowJo, GraphPad Prism, Microsoft Excel/Word/Powerpoint, Softmax Pro, Spotfire.

Minimum requirements

• B.A./B.S. or M.S. in Molecular Biology, Biochemistry of Cell Biology
• Minimum of 2 years of experience in mammalian cell biology and biochemistry
• Proficiency in cell and molecular biology techniques including transfection (cDNA and siRNA), viral transduction, stable cell line generation, Western blotting, flow cytometry
• Demonstrated ability to participate in experimental design, execution, data analysis as well as interpretation of results.
• Candidate should enjoy working in a collaborative team environment and be able to handle multiple tasks efficiently as well as troubleshoot problems.
• Excellent oral and written communication skills
