Postdoctoral Scholar – Synthetic Biology NIBR Cambridge

Job Description

Novartis Institutes for BioMedical Research (NIBR) is the innovation engine of Novartis. We collaborate across scientific and organizational boundaries, with a focus on powerful new technologies that have the potential to help produce therapeutic breakthroughs for patients.

The Synthetic Biology group is seeking a postdoctoral fellow to develop a platform for engineering microbially-derived natural product pathways. The postdoc will build chassis, devices and gene-parts library for the platform and functionalize it to create nature-mimetic small molecules. The successful candidate will have expertise in molecular microbiology/synthetic biology and working knowledge of either computational biology, analytical chemistry or protein engineering. Understanding of natural products biosynthesis will be desirable, but not necessary. The postdoc should be able to plan, prioritize and execute routine experiments independently. The fellow is also expected to be enthusiastic, hardworking, meticulous and motivated quick learner with good interpersonal skills.

The successful candidate will join a vibrant scientific community and collaborate with other postdoctoral fellows mentored by a range of scientists across disciplines and platforms, including chemistry, structural biology, molecular biology, functional genomics, neurophysiology and translational medicine. Postdoctoral scholars at NIBR have a unique opportunity to conduct innovative, interdisciplinary research and are expected to publish their results in leading journals. The postdoctoral term is up to 4 years.
