Novartis Institutes for BioMedical Research (NIBR) is seeking a highly talented and motivated synthetic chemist with a strong background in synthetic materials, biomaterials, polymer, or supramolecular chemistry to join our Global Discovery Chemistry team in Cambridge, MA. The successful candidate will join an energizing and collaborative research environment working alongside colleagues who are committed to improving human health through the discovery of transformative medicines.

We seek molecular-scale thinkers who are passionate about macromolecular-scale chemistry and its application to the discovery of impactful treatments and cures. Here you can play a leading role in solving currently intractable challenges in biomedical research through the discovery of new therapeutic modalities, drug delivery systems, and drug discovery technologies.

You will be expected to be a significant contributor at all stages of a project's course, from project conception, to drug candidate selection and pre-clinical development. You will design molecules, materials, and assemblies and guide synthetic chemistry efforts required to produce them. Through strong interactions with experts in all areas of drug discovery (biology, pharmacokinetics, formulation, early development, etc.) you will identify limitations with our current modalities and technologies, and then propose and implement creative solutions. You will act as a source of expertise in the macromolecular sciences and their applications in biomedicine to Novartis colleagues. By initiating and building collaborations with other scientists, both within and outside of your area of expertise, you will broadly influence the course of science at Novartis.

Minimum requirements
• Ph.D. degree in Chemistry
• 5+ years’ experience in the synthesis and characterization of materials, polymers, biopolymers, or supramolecular assemblies
• Strong knowledge of fundamental principles of materials science, polymer science, drug delivery, and/or chemical biology
• Track-record of scientific achievement in the field of materials science, polymer science, or supramolecular chemistry, exemplified by authorship of publications/presentations in the field(s)
• Knowledge of modern organic synthetic methods and experience with common purification and analytical techniques
• Strong analytical thinking, leadership, organizational and project management skills
• Excellent communication skills and a naturally collaborative style
• Demonstrated the ability to influence and collaborate within and across multidisciplinary teams
