Job Purpose

To provide legal services and counsel to management and human resources, in the areas of employment law, employee relations, and related litigation; and to management and brand/other teams related to the Oncology business’s promotional/commercial, medical, and other activities.

Major Accountabilities

• Legal Counsel/Leadership – Act as counsel for assigned clients on broad range of HR and employment related legal matters. Advise Management and Human Resources on all HR related activities including reductions in force (RIFs) and restructuring to minimize risk to the company. Advise on staffing, performance management, and employee relations related matters to ensure compliance.
• Litigation/Investigations – Assist with management of on-going litigation. Assist with comprehensive, quality and timely responses to investigations into potential employee misconduct. Support litigation by interviewing witnesses and preparing presentations. Ensure compliance with e-discovery obligations relating to preservation and production of documents. Partner with and provide direction to outside counsel, as needed.
• Regulatory/Promotional/Scientific Materials Review – Partner with commercial, regulatory, and medical colleagues to ensure timely review of all promotional and scientific materials. Contribute actively to review team and cross-functional teams by evaluating potential risk and providing counsel. Ensure coordination with other legal associates supporting brand to ensure consistency. Coordinate additional support as needed.
• Innovation – Drive innovation and actively contribute to new strategies supporting business goals. Make appropriate judgment calls during times of ambiguity and lead team through new legal territory. Pursue calculated risk-taking in an unpredictable environment with appropriate contingency planning and continually challenge status quo
• Functional Leadership – Actively contribute to Legal Function through participation in initiatives to build departmental knowledge and capabilities by sharing best practices. Partner with colleagues to contribute expertise as needed.

Education:
• Juris Doctor or equivalent degree and prior Bachelors or equivalent 4-Year university degree required.

Languages:
• Fluent English
Required Knowledge and Experience:
• >10 years of experience in legal counseling role in industry and/or major law firm in employment law
• Knowledge of federal and state employment laws
• Substantial experience counseling management and HR professionals
• Experience in expertise handling litigation and investigations and advising on corporate compliance programs
• Experience in interviewing witnesses and preparing presentations.
• Significant expertise in litigation techniques, including electronic discovery.
• Knowledge and experience with e-discovery obligations relating to preservation and production of documents.
• Strong business acumen with strong understanding of the pharmaceutical business and related legal issues
