Novartis Institutes for BioMedical Research (NIBR) is seeking a highly talented and motivated synthetic/medicinal chemist to join our Discovery Chemistry group at the Genomics Institute of the Novartis Research Foundation (GNF, Novartis) in San Diego, CA. The successful candidate will join an energizing and collaborative research environment working alongside colleagues who are committed to improving human health through the discovery of transformative medicines.

We seek an individual who is passionate about drug discovery and enjoys solving synthetic chemistry challenges. The individual will work as part of a cross-functional drug discovery team and have the primary responsibility to carry out the multi-step synthesis of small molecules for biological testing. The candidate will have a proven track record of scientific impact through the preparation of novel molecules and/or the development of new synthetic methods. The ideal candidate will have experience in medicinal chemistry with a working knowledge of biological data interpretation as well as molecular design and optimization. Experience with synthesis and analysis of chemical biology probes or conjugates is a plus. The candidate is expected to implement and contribute new concepts in a collaborative team setting

• M.S. degree in Chemistry with 0-7 years of industry experience, or B.S. degree in Chemistry with 5+ years of industry experience in the synthesis and characterization of organic molecules
• Knowledge of modern organic synthetic methods
• Experience with common purification and analytical techniques
• Good communication skills and naturally collaborative style
• Able and willing to follow established safety procedures
• Able and willing to follow guidelines for documenting work and characterizing compounds
