The Head of Strategy & Operations, Clincal Development (CD) works closely with the Global Head Strategy & Operations as well as the Global Head CD&A to develop, lead and drive/implement strategic initiatives, operational oversight, and functional excellence for the Clinical Development function and cross-functionally with partner lines in a consistent and efficient manner; heads the Integrated Scientific Review Committee (ISRC) Office and resource planning activites for CD.

1) Drives strategic directives, innovative ideas and functional objectives by combining both functional and operational expertise via internal and/or external partnerships related to new technology, , data sharing, and strategic relationships with key stakeholder
2) Sets the direction of the processes and responsibilities of the ISRC Office; leads the ISRC Office team and the interactions with key stakeholders (e.g. Pharma & Oncology GMA LT, TA Heads, functional leaders.) to assess needs and gain endorsements for improvements. Responsible for CAT and Protocol Amendment metrics and leads the efforts to update the PRC Tracker system and other tools for the ISRC Office
3) Co-develops and implements plans for the strategic optimization of the CD global footprint in terms of ideal proximity and reduced complexity, as well as the optimization of vendor engagements
4) Identifies gaps and executes on strategic and process improvement initiatives for the CD function and ensures high quality business practices are defined spanning: metrics (financial and business), training, hiring, process improvement, business continuity planning, audit readiness, change management, functional communications and knowledge management
5) Drives top-level talent acquisition and retention strategies with HR; implements initiatives for targeted recruiting via professional meetings and conferences; and contributes to the succession planning and capability development of our global associates
6) Manages and coordinates the efficient planning and utilization of CD resources and budget, and projects across the GDD Portfolio in line with IMB prioritization. Leads update and improvements of resourcing algorithms and process
7) Ensures successful collaboration with the NIBR organization for the Early Development portfolio
8) Builds, promotes and maintains partnership with Analytics and GDO functions such as Trial Management, Data Operations, TFR, and other key Novartis divisional stakeholders, to ensure seamless collaboration on projects and defining proactive cross-functional operational plans to mitigate/manage portfolio risks
9) Leads continuous improvement efforts for productivity of group by designing, implementing, maintaining and conducting flawless executions of key metrics (e.g., KPI and KQI). Ensures appropriate links, significant contributions and representation to broader metrics initiatives.


Education:
Advanced degree in a scientific or healthcare (or clinically relevant) field is required

Languages:
Fluent oral and written English

Experience/Professional requirement:
• 10+ years relevant industry experience with a fundamental understanding of Drug Development
• 10+ years multi / cross functional global leadership experience desired
• Strong leadership presence with the ability to present and interact with senior management
• Strong evidence of strategic thinking, problem solving capabilities, scenario evaluation, contingency planning and operational effectiveness/innovation, especially in Drug Development
• Excellent understanding of clinical development, quality and regulatory standards and policies
• Well-established track record and sought after across the industry for strong Drug Development and organizational leadership. Proven ability to effectively lead or sponsor major non-clinical initiatives
• Strong project management skills, able to adjust to multiple demands, shifting priorities and unexpected events while maintaining a positive work attitude
• Outstanding skills to facilitate/optimize contribution of team members as individuals and member
