We view community engagement and associate volunteer activities as a key component of our commitment to corporate responsibility, and actively support our local communities.
Our global volunteer activity takes the form of our Community Partnership Day, an initiative replicated by Novartis Group company sites every year, which provides an opportunity for associates around the world to make a difference in their local communities.
Activities have included accompanying children with disabilities on trips, working at health-related nonprofit organizations, visiting hospitals and nursing homes, and using business skills to help local organizations improve their efficiency. In 2015, more than 27,000 associates took part in Community Partnership Day.
Recognizing that Corporate Responsibility rests with each and every one of us, we launched the Corporate Volunteering database. This online internal platform allows Novartis associates to actively and personally involve themselves in CR initiatives by becoming Corporate Volunteers or launching their own CR project.
Co-sponsored by the Corporate Responsibility and Human Resources teams, the database celebrates employee engagement and enables them to exemplify the Novartis Values & Behaviors. This brings a new dimension to the work of those who participate as they have an opportunity to address a significant need as individuals and as part of a larger team.
The platform matches Corporate Volunteers with CR initiatives based on criteria such as skills, mobility, duration and location. Contributions vary from hands-on volunteering for our annual Community Partnership Day to long-term contributions (either remotely or on the ground).
Corporate Volunteers come from very diverse backgrounds and cultures and donate their expertise and time pro bono. They help to build capacity and capabilities, both internally and within recipient organizations, making a positive impact on the community.
