Novartis Molecular Diagnostics

Combining pharmaceutical and diagnostic expertise

In 2008, Novartis established Molecular Diagnostics (MDx), an integrated unit within the Novartis Pharmaceuticals Division that leverages the company’s strengths and capabilities in pharmaceutical research, development and commercialization to translate identified biomarkers into high-quality diagnostic tests. Novartis MDx researchers work at the earliest stages of drug development to identify opportunities where we may be able to help improve patient care and add value to society as a whole.

In the future, payors and regulators may require companion diagnostics to accompany new therapies. Novartis MDx works to improve the efficacy of our medicines by leveraging the biomarker work conducted at NIBR to identify patients who may positively respond to new medicines and develop companion diagnostics to complement new drugs.

Novartis MDx strives to become a world leader in developing and commercializing diagnostic tests to optimize patient outcomes and to transform the practice of medicine.

Comprehensive laboratory services

Genoptix Medical Laboratory, a part of Novartis MDx, also provides personalized and comprehensive laboratory services to community-based hematologists and oncologists. Genoptix specializes in diagnosing cancers and disorders in bone marrow, blood, and lymph nodes, with expertise in the most challenging diagnoses.

Collaboration opportunities with Novartis Molecular Diagnostics

Collaborations play a critical role across all dimensions of Novartis business. Novartis MDx works with external partners to leverage technologies across multiple channels and will selectively acquire or in-license specific intellectual property and capabilities that fit their diagnostic requirements.
